Metro-Cammell Body Index

When Birmingham City Transport began, in 1962, replacing its huge intake of new buses, bought in the early 1950s, it chose Daimler's then new Fleetline CRG6LX chassis as its new standard bus. Body orders were split between Metro-Cammell and Park Royal. BON548C was a 1965 example of the Metro-Cammell version, the original box-like Orion derived body having been "modernised" by a moulded front lower panel.
This picture was taken on 31 August 1974, after the bus had been with West Midlands P.T.E. for approaching five years. Despite this, it was still wearing B.C.T. livery, modified only with the W.M.P.T.E. fleet name. At the time, the post World War Two rebuilding of Birmingham's City Centre was virtually complete. Since then, it has been rebuilt again and this scene, which I think from memory was on Smallbrook Ringway, has changed out of all recognition.
