WYPTE (Calderdale District) 3293, 3089, 3092 & 3091 (ECP683D, MJX9J, MJX12J & MJX11J), Daimler Fleetline CRG6LX's with Northern Counties H43/31F bodies (3293 was H43/32F), new to Halifax Corporation in 1966 (as 103), and 1970 (as 89, 92 & 91). Withdrawn from service and stored at the Elmwood Garage yard.
ECP683D on the left was one of the original batch of seven Fleetlines (99-105) but had been transferred to the JOC fleet in 1971 as 293. Withdrawn from service in 1984 it was converted into Training Bus H347 (later 9347) remaining at Halifax. Having passed their Class 1 (Manual) PSV Test after almost two weeks on a PD2/37, trainees would usually then spend the next week route learning and becoming familiar with the longer, rear-engined, semi-automatic Fleetline 9347. Then on the final fourth week they would continue route learning on all the other available types of vehicle, reverting to the Fleetline at peak times when the others were required for service. It was finally withdrawn and sold for scrap in January 1990. I was a driving instructor at the time and we were given no warning whatsoever that 9347 was going. I turned up with my trainees at the Elmwood Garage yard one very cold winter's morning expecting to do a spot of route learning with it only to find two blue overalled gorillas very unceremoniously hitching it to the back of PVS's ERF wrecker and then hauling it away up the road to oblivion !
The three J-reg. Fleetlines here originally did have the same three-piece destination layout as 3293, but had been modified to the Leeds-style layout as seen here. 3089 (along with similar 3088) were also converted to Training Buses but transferred to Bradford District.
