West Yorkshire PTE (Calderdale District) 3071, DCP71D, a Leyland Titan PD2/37 with Weymann H36/28F body, new to Halifax Corporation (71) in 1966.
Carrying the then recently introduced simplified WYPTE livery with 'MetroBus' lettering, 71 is seen being heaved round the often tricky right turn from Powell Street into Fountain Street. It is operating the 21 service, via Ovenden Way, Cousin Lane and the Abbey Park Estate, nominally to Pavement Lane though the terminus was slightly beyond there at Riley Lane. From there it would change to a 20 or 22, each continuing a different clockwise loop around the Illingwoth Estate before returning to town direct via Keighley Road, terminating in Albion Street.
In the background along Powell Street can just be seen a Yorkshire Woollen District Leopard about to operate the short 36 route to Paddock Lane, on the western outskirts of the town. This was jointly operated with WYPTE.
The dark building to the right of the YWD bus was 'Tramway Buildings' (the name still incorporated into the stonework above) built in the 1920's with the intention of housing the Corporation Tramways Department offices. In the event this didn't take place and only the dingey basement at a lower level on the other side in Back Commercial Street was used by them, initially as a Parcel Office, then later as the Inspectors' and Enquiry Office and a cockroach infested staff canteen until vacated in the 1980s.
