Halifax Corporation 35, PJX35, a Leyland Leopard L1 with Weymann B42F body, new in 1962.
Halifax 35 is nowadays preserved and a rear view of it and the West Riding Tiger was recently shown on this site.
Here is a 1971 view of it in service and not looking quite so pristine. It is on loan to the J.O.C. and passing along Jepson Lane, Elland on the Elland-Ripponden Service 59 and being passed by a dirty Hillman Imp. In the background a Roe-bodied Daimler CVG6 (but re-engined with a Leyland 0600) passes the other way.
Halifax bus stops were quite distinctive, being produced in the bodyshop using offcuts of aluminium panels and handpainted using the bus paint colours. Normal bus stops had a green surround whilst farestage stops had orange. Unfortunately it seems that they were not varnished like the bus panels were, and very quickly succumbed to the rigours of the harsh Pennine climate - the more exposed ones fading away completely. This particular stop is of interest as like many in the Elland area it also had a Huddersfield stop sign attached beneath, which was uncannily similar in design to the Halifax one, leading me to wonder if Halifax actually produced them for Huddersfield to use in 'our' area - though why each operator needed to have a sign I do not know.
Elland is situated between Halifax and Huddersfield, and this road - as far as West Vale - had been used by Huddersfield trams, later trolleybuses, then motorbuses, which were later extended to Halifax on what then became a joint service - 42. The Leopard's route 59 however (originally numbered 43B) was an entirely out-of-town route which had been inherited with the takeover of Ripponden & District's stage services in 1934.
