The former Huddersfield Corporation tram shelter that has recently been fully restored and returned to its site at Edgerton Road (Imperial Road).
There were once many tram shelters of this particularly elegant design gracing the Huddersfield roadsides, but this one on the Elland and West Vale route was for many years the last remaining example. It gradually fell into disrepair, and typically the WYPTE wanted nothing to do with it and actually moved their bus stop sign several yards further along the road to distance themselves from any responsibility for it. A while back the shelter was removed from the site and most of us feared the worst, but then - Hey Presto ! - it has returned, beautifully restored. It now serves First Halifax buses on the 503 Halifax to Huddersfield service. A lovely job. Well done to whoever has forked out what must have been a considerable sum.
I am indebted to my good friend Don Akrigg for providing this and another photo and allowing it to be posted on this site.
