With green light for home village, Hunter of Seaton Delaval 23, LJR425 leaves Whitley Bay town centre on the stage service from North Shields. The AEC Reliance MU3RV carries Plaxton Consort C41F body, its new date June 1957 is as amended in news sheet 808.
My recall is hazy as to whether this was a regular coach on stage work by 1975 or a fourth vehicle for enhanced Saturday service, it certainly seems to retain hand-operated door here. It was sold to Craiggs of Amble for brief service sometime in the couple of years following the photo, possibly replaced by Leicester Renown 37, DBC189C purchased in 1977.
The well-known art deco Bus Station was a short distance to your photographer's left. Social note for times past is represented by the queue for Sunday joints at the Belvedere butcher's shop, seen in higher resolution.
