Hebble 275, GCP4, an AEC Regent V D3RV with Weymann L27/28R body, new in 1956 as 75 and renumbered the following year. It was withdrawn only days after this photo was taken in September 1968 passing to North's the dealer at Sherburn-in-Elmet, who scrapped it by June 1969. Passing the other way is 30ft forward entrance Mk.V 306, JCP672.
GCP 4 was one of a pair (GCP4, 5) and were Hebble's first Mk.V's and also their last lowbridge purchases. Over the years their original squared off front wings had been replaced by the later rounded off type, and the original vertical slatted grilles replaced by the later mesh type. Despite what many would call the inherent slab-sided and squat ugliness of the lowbridge Orion, these were always some of my all-time favourite buses and produced the most wonderful sound effects from their whining gearboxes, growling exhausts, and when new the range of weird noises from the exhaust brakes, later removed. It is seen here climbing Haley Hill out of Halifax on the 17 route to Bradford via Queensbury, from where it would return as a 7 via Shelf.
