Although the Elland Road tram route, number 8, had been withdrawn on 25th June 1955 and replaced by buses, the tracks were kept open for access to the Permanent Way Yard in Lowfields Road which was also used for scrapping trams.
During the Suez crisis the football special trams were reintroduced and Horsfield 198 with a Brush 37/23 body on a Peckham P.35 truck is seen in the shortened siding in Lowfields Road and was one of eleven trams used on this date.
