Former Huddersfield and West Bridgford Daimler CWA6 CCX777, with relaxed utlility body by Duple, stands at the New Cheriton terminus of the 67 from Winchester. Taken on the occasion of the final New Year's Day Winchester Running Day, the bus continues to masquerade as London Transport D130. It is a remarkable survivor, given the reputation of the utility bodies, put down partly at least to Duple's construction method that included steel strengthening of the wooden body pillars. It has been in preservation since 1967, I believe.
The 50 minute round trip on this bus, in rapidly fading daylight amid heavy rain and flooded roads, with water trickling down into the lower saloon from the sunken gangway, was one of the highlights of the running day!
Only the modern style bus stop pole & flag and the back of the "give way" sign spoil an almost timeless scene.
