Forty years of electric traction was celebrated at the Beamish Open Air Museum over the weekend. Seen in the depot is Blackpool 31, a bogie open top tram dating from 1901. It was originally a four wheeler but was lengthened and fitted with bogies in 1918 as a prelude to the building of the Blackpool standard cars in the twenties.
It was fitted with a top cover in 1928. From 1934 until 1984 this car was part of the tramway engineering department fleet of works trams.
