Southend Transport operated a fleet of ex-London Routemasters between 1988 and 1993. 113, ALD871B, was one of the few with Leyland rather than AEC engines and had been operated by Southampton Corporation before service in Southend.
On the occasion of the Southend Bus Rally in 1989, 113 operated a return trip to London on the X1 coach service. Here Peter stands with 113 about to depart at 0730 for London early on that Sunday morning. The Routemaster was duplicated by coach 505 (BTE205V).
