Don't Forget The Crew

Photo © Les Thorington. Please do not re-post without permission.

Driver Ernest Thorington stands proudly in front of Eastern National Lodekka 1487, 435FEV, at the instantly recognisable Southend Victoria Station terminus, ready for the hour and 26 minute run to Grays.
The bus was new in 1956 and looks in pristine condition. It also displays the red circle allocation code above the fleet number plate, denoting a Southend bus. The allocations were changed to 2 letter plates in 1958 (SD in this case), hence dating the picture to the 1956-1958 era. It became 2456 under the 1964 renumbering scheme.

Picture kindly supplied by Ernest's son Les Thorington. Anyone remember the driver ? He started with AJS Motors Rayleigh, before moving on to Rayleigh Motor Services and Westcliff-on-Sea, finishing with Eastern National.
