Uses for an old bus

Photo © Brian Pask. Please do not re-post without permission.

This unidentified United double decker, probably a Leyland TD with, perhaps, Weymann body was parked at Newcastle's Haymarket Bus Station as a staff canteen.
It looks as if a roof route number box has been adapted to take a ventilator for the upper deck. Did it have a roof route number box when in service?
