One of the more unusual vehicle hires in 1976/7 saw Ensign Bus loan two elderly coaches to Southend Transport. One at least (205, VDB915) had bus doors but the other, seen here, was former Grey Green Harrington bodied Leopard 432FXX, with a manual door. In theory this meant it could only be used crew-operated.
The painted over destination gear also necessitated the use of yellow "strike boards", as displayed here at Bournes Green, on a short working on route 4. Later the blind boxes were uncovered and some makeshift blinds fitted.
204 ran for Southend from February 1976 to February 1977 and was primarily used on school contract work.
