A typical Southend Transport bus on a typical working but uncharacteristically dirty! Fleetline 369, WJN369J, from the initial batch of 26 that had brought a revolutionary change to the fleet when new in 1971, at stand A in Southend Central Bus Station on the short 62 route to Westcliff, Plough.
With a running time of 13 minutes outwards and 14 back, with only a 1 minute stand at the Plough and 2 minutes in the bus station, operating to a half-hourly headway, half a shift (7 rounders) on 62s was hard work!
The dirt on 369 was because at that time of year (around Christmas) the outside bus wash would often freeze up, so buses couldn't be washed - just at the time when the roads were gritty.
