The "Whitehall, Horse Guards" destination display on 339, CJN439C (a 1965 Leyland PD3/6 with Massey highbridge body) is rather incongruous in Queensway in the centre of Southend. At the time, 10 Southend Transport Titans were on hire to London Transport at South Croydon garage, operating on the 190 (Old Coulsdon to Thornton Heath) and fitted with Routemaster blinds, but they returned to Southend for regular maintenance - here Peter is returning it to the London Road Garage from the ST works.
The hire lasted from August 1975 to February 1976 and the buses then went on hire to London Country at Harlow garage. Southend PD3s were also hired to Colchester and Cardiff Corporations.
