In a number of years in the 1970s and 1980s, Eastern National were not able to provide crews for their share of the seasonal seafront services and Southend Transport operated the services, hiring EN's KSWs (and, latterly, FLFs). With a tiny "On Hire to ST" sticker just visible in the nearside window over the engine, KSW 2383, WNO479, in NBC white with a green band, Peter pulls away from the more easterly of the two stops at the Kursaal. Someone had also stuck a label "ST" over the normal ENOC garage plate above the fleet number.
On the left can be seen Beach Road, one of the side streets used to turn short working buses terminating at the Kursaal from the Leigh/Eastwood direction.
