Southend's notorious low bridge at the Pier was replaced a few years ago, meaning that there are no longer any restrictions on double deckers passing underneath. This shot therefore of ex Southend Daimler CWA6 244, FOP429, passing underneath makes an interesting contrast with my shot taken 21 years previously of PD3 open topper 311 passing under the old bridge.
The Daimler was running as part of a special two-day event to mark the 30th anniversary of the Castle Point Transport Museum Society. You can see more event photos here.
Sadly, regular open top bus services on Southend seafront ceased in September 2005 when Stephensons withdrew their service which had latterly run under the City Sightseeing brand.
The perils of the old bridge are shown here and here.
