When London Transport decided Daimler Fleetlines did not suit its needs, and decided to dispose of them after only a few years, many other operators seized the opportunity both to buy modern buses at a fraction of the price of a new one and to avoid long and uncertain lead times for delivery. One such operator was Hornsby's of Ashby, Scunthorpe. When this picture was taken at their premises in April 1983, KUC972P looked to have only recently been acquired.
The bus was new to LT in May 1976 and was a FE30ALR (Leyland engine) Fleetline model with Metro-Cammell's version of LT's standard H44/24D Fleetline body. It served them for about ten years before sale to North's (dealer) at Sherburn-in-Elmet.
