Former Tailby & George (Blue Bus) of Willington GNU750, a Daimler COG5/40 with Willowbrook C35F body, new in 1939.
Following John Kaye's recent postings of photos taken on the 1968 HCVC London-Brighton Rally, here is the vehicle on which I travelled to the same event - my first time to Brighton. At the time it was owned by John Horrocks, formerly of Halifax but by then working for Derby Corporation. Later it changed hands, then seemed to disappear from the scene for quite a while, before reappearing, magnificently restored to its original, even more attractive livery. Recently it is said to have been advertised for sale for £25,000, and is now believed to have been exported to Lithuania. What a crying shame - a superb and rare vehicle lost to us probably forever whilst our rally fields fill up with more Routemasters and Leyland Nationals.
