Beer and Lager

Seen at the Gipton terminus is Chamberlain tram 8 new in September 1926 with a Brush 46/26 body on an E.M.B. Pivotal truck whch had been replaced by a Peckham P.35 Pendulum truck in April 1949. The track approaching the terminus was in a cutting known locally as "Gipton Gulch". 8 was last used in service in June 1955 and was burned at Lowfields Road Permanent Way Yard on 13th July 1955.
This driver seemed to be able always to keep his uniform hat 'just about to fall off his head' and was one of the more enthusiastic drivers giving an exhilarating ride. The Gipton service was to be converted to bus operation with the last trams running on the next day April 23rd.
