Yorkshire Traction 363, WHE363J, a Daimler Fleetline SRG6LX with Alexander W-type B45D body, new in 1970.
Whilst Alexander's Y-type was undoubtedly a classic, this rear view of their W-type on a Fleetline with its messy window line, and rounded dome and curved rear window jarring against the squared-off engine compartment suggests to me the words 'dog's' and 'breakfast'. With its long and deep windows and correspondingly few body pillars, a centre exit creating a structural weak spot, and a Gardner 6LX, gearbox, flywheel full of fluid, radiator full of coolant and other assorted heavy mechanical bits and pieces all resting at the far end of a long overhang, all being propelled at speed along the roads of a county not noted for its excellent road maintenance, it was probably not surprising that these Fleetline variants had very short lives.
