The Back End of the Bus

Wolverhampton 379, DUK279, a Guy Arab II with Roe H31/25R body, new 1943/44, re-bodied 1951/2.
The chassis of these buses were too good to scrap; fuel in one hole, water in another & go for ever but the bodies were not up for a long life. Wolverhampton had twenty buses, 362 - 381 re-bodied by Roe in 1951-2. I well remember this 'new' bus turning up at school to take us home in 1952 plodded along just like the old buses we were used too. Neverless they gave good service generally confined to peak hour duties and we were sorry to see them go. When a bus reached the the 'dump' at the back of Park Lane Garage, their number was generally up, as with 379 with its two-piece upper saloon rear emergency exit. The bus later a mobile 'Rest Room' for the Council Works Dept.
