Edinburgh 612, YWS612, was one of a batch of 50 Leyland PD2A/30s with Alexander H37/29R bodies which formed the bulk of the Corporation's 1962 intake; 612 was delivered in January of that year.
It is seen operating service 4 (Fairmilehead - Bingham Road). Back then, the service terminated at Swanston Drive except during the summer months when it was extended, during the hours of daylight, by about half a mile or so to Hillend at the foot of the Pentland Hills for access to the park, golf course and ski slope.
Many years ago, Hillend became the terminus for all journeys throughout the year and the present Lothian Buses' service 4 is one which has scarcely altered in decades, its only significant change being its extension at the other end from Bingham Road (now renamed Duddingston Row, perhaps to prevent any stigma from the past) to The Jewel.
