GKV94 is Coventry 94, a Daimler CVA6 with Metro-Cammell H31/29R body and was the first post-war bus type delivered to Coventry Corporation and dates from 1950. In 1970 Smiths of Long Itchington was operating this vehicle on school contracts, still in Coventry maroon but with with the cream over painted with black.
It went onto a number of preservationists before joining the Roger Burdett collection - and one of the hardest vehicles in his collection to find and photograph. In fact it has spent many recent years in storage in Staffordshire. I've seen it only once and my pictures from then can be seen here
In 2015 Roger decided to have the vehicle fully restored and it went to Quantock Heritage where you can see it is virtually being rebuilt. Work is progressing fine on 94 and they have been able to remove some of the Acrow props supporting the structure. They have had to remove most of the rear end woodwork due to woodworm infestation and subsequently burn the affected wood. None of the middle 4 risers had any metal there between the top of the lower saloon windows and bottom of the upper saloon windows. This is not something that has happened overnight and as wood has been inserted where metal should be at some time in the past the body has obviously been in a poor condition for many years. The restoration is further hampered by the need to replace the inter-deck flooring.
Roger anticipates the bus coming back to his Coventry location around the end of 2016 for work on the interior over the 16/17 winter
