CIE WT6, HZD585, Leyland ERT2/1 Worldmaster with CIE C40F body.
In the early 1960s, CIE needed to replace their fleet of ten year old Royal Tiger coaches used for touring duties. They ordered 13 Leyland Leopard chassis (which became CIE's ET class) and 23 Leyland Worldmaster chassis, the WT class. All had striking bodies designed designed by David Ogle Associates, but built by CIE. Unfortunately the bodies were steel framed, heavy, and didn't last and so in 1970/71 all were scrapped and the chassis sent to Belgium for rebodying by Van Hool. On return they were renumbered into a LVH and WVH class, respectively, and in this form they survived until well into the 1980s.
With all this ahead of it, here is WT6 (HZD585), new in June 1963, seen in July 1964 at Achill Island. It was rebodied in May 1970, renumbered WVH 6, and survived until withdrawn in June 1985 and sold for scrap in September 1986.
