Preserved former Bristol Leyland PD1/ECW LAE13, C4044, taking part in the Running day to commemorate the fortieth anniversary, October 14th 2007, of the end of the Samuel Ledgard bus company. I could not resist posing with the vehicle, as we had its twin LAE12 at Otley depot throughout its career with Ledgard.
It was also the bus that I had for my very first duty the day after passing my test - a late turn on a Friday on the very busy Leeds - Guiseley to Ilkley service - and so I naturally had a very soft spot for the vehicle and was thrilled to have my picture taken with LAE13. Also in the picture is the immaculately restored MXX232 (ex London RLH 32) of Timeline Travel, St. Albans whose owners had most kindly had it painted very professionally in Ledgard livery for the event - we had four RLHs at Ledgard's (KYY 502/4/6/8 - RLH 2/4/6/8) and so it was a magnificent gesture. I spent most of the day conducting MXX 232 with my original uniform and Otley depot Setright ticket machine - a wonderful day, albeit it one of sad reminiscences for the thousands who still regret the demise of "Sammie's."
